Fred Kerley Predicted He'd Break Usain Bolt's Record, His Time Would've Been Last in Paris Olympics

Zach BacharMay 25, 2026

Fred Kerley didn't come close to breaking Usain Bolt's world-record time of 9.58 seconds in the 100 meters after predicting that he would do so while competing at the Enhanced Games on Sunday night.

Kerley ultimately ran 100 meters in 9.97 seconds.

While he won the event at the Enhanced Games and took home $250,000, his time would have placed him last at the 2024 Paris Olympics (via the Associated Press).

Kerley previously claimed that he would shatter Bolt's record ahead of the Enhanced Games.

"It's going to be destroyed," Kerley told reporters.

While the Enhanced Games allowed athletes to take performance-enhancing substances before competing, the 31-year-old said he would be running clean.

"I don't need it," Kerley told reporters. "God gave me fast feet for a reason. I'm here to showcase my talent. You still have to work. Drugs aren't going to give you an advantage if you're not putting the work in."

He previously captured a silver medal in the 100 meters at the Tokyo Olympics before following it up with bronze at the Paris Games. Kerley recorded a time of 9.81 seconds in the event during the 2024 Olympics.

The Athletics Integrity Unit eventually handed him a two-year suspension on March 6 after he missed drug tests from May through December 2024.

Kerley's suspension was backdated to Aug. 2025 and will run through Aug. 11, 2027.

As for Bolt's record, it was set during the 2009 world championships in Berlin and has stood ever since.
