New Giannis-Evan Mobley Trade Rumors Reveal Cavs' Stance on Blockbuster Deal
As the Cleveland Cavaliers are on the brink of being eliminated from the playoffs after falling behind 3-0 to the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals, they could be looking at some major changes this offseason.
The Athletic's Joe Vardon suggested that the Cavs could consider "something drastic" like trading star forward Evan Mobley in exchange for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, two league sources told Vardon that Cleveland "has shown no interest in that move as of now."
Despite having a talented lineup led by the star duo of Donovan Mitchell and James Harden, the Cavs have been unable to keep up with the Knicks, who have now won 10 straight playoff games. Mobley was one of Cleveland's lone bright spots in Saturday's 121-108 loss in Game 3, scoring a team-high 24 points and adding six rebounds.

Harden: Fatigue Not Excuse

Mitchell Quote on Knick Fans 👀
Vardon explained that the Cavs have a daunting outlook for the upcoming offseason, which would be further compounded by an embarrassing exit from the conference finals.
"The Cavs, probably soon, are going home for the summer with the most expensive roster in NBA history and no finals berth to show for it," Vardon stated. "The rules are written such that it is unlikely some key role players will be back, and it is nearly impossible to bring in better replacements without first making significant moves to shed salary."
The Bucks are expected to listen to trade offers for Antetokounmpo, who would be a massive difference-maker to any lineup. The Cavs clearly need a little extra help to get over the top, but it sounds like it would take a change in philosophy for them to pursue a blockbuster trade for Antetokounmpo this offseason.
