Anthony Edwards Reacts to Nike's Diss with Wemby Ad in New Video

Adam WellsMay 23, 2026

Nike's attempt to throw shade at Anthony Edwards after the Minnesota Timberwolves' playoff loss to the San Antonio Spurs fell flat four-time All-Star.

In a new video on his YouTube channel (starts at 10:55 mark), Edwards took Nike's diss as a compliment because it mean's "y'all think about me" and he's always going to "talk my s--t" regardless of the result.

Following the Spurs' series-clinching win over Minnesota in Game 6 on May 15, Nike posted "Believe This" with an alien symbol for Victor Wembanyama.

The "Believe This" line is a reference to Edwards' Believe That 1 signature shoe with Adidas.

Nike has been a little salty toward Edwards over the years since he opted to sign with Adidas during his rookie season in 2020-21.

For example, on the first day of the 2024-25 NBA season, Adidas released a commercial titled "No Lie" featuring Edwards taking a lie-detector test answering several sneaker- and basketball-related questions.

After the Timberwolves lost to the Los Angeles Lakers later that same day, Nike made a reference to LeBron James while taking a shot at Edwards' commercial.

One of the reasons that Edwards isn't in the Nike family is the company didn't want to sign any of the rookies from the 2020 draft class right away.

Happy Walters, CEO of Catalyst Sports & Media, told Sportico in November 2020 that multiple shoe representative said Nike was waiting until January to sign any rookies in part because the company didn't have the budget for it.

Edwards wound up signing an endorsement deal with Adidas in December 2020 after playing his first two games in the NBA. He renewed his agreement with the apparel giant in 2024 to become one of the faces of the brand.

Wembanyama originally signed with Nike in 2023 even before he was drafted No. 1 overall by the Spurs. He has more than lived up to his potential already, leading San Antonio to 62 wins and an appearance in the Western Conference Finals this season.

Even though Nike was able to get the last laugh over Edwards this season, his track record suggests the company shouldn't get too high on its own supply because he seems to thrive on trash talk.
