The Blockbuster NBA Trade Idea That Would Change Everything
The 2026 NBA offseason is quickly approaching with a ton of star player situations yet to be resolved.
Who will win the inevitable Giannis Antetokounmpo bidding war? Can the Minnesota Timberwolves get a true No. 2 next to Anthony Edwards? Could Kevin Durant's time with the Houston Rockets already be over? What if all these questions could be answered with a single trade?
This four-team, blockbuster NBA trade idea would alter the landscape of the entire league.

Golden State Warriors Receive: PF Giannis Antetokounmpo
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: F Kevin Durant
Houston Rockets Receive: F Jimmy Butler, 2026 first-round pick (No. 28 overall, via Wolves)
Milwaukee Bucks Receive: PF Julius Randle, SG Brandon Podziemski, G Donte DiVincenzo, F Dorian Finney-Smith, 2026 first-round pick (No. 11 overall, via Warriors), 2028 first-round pick (unprotected via Warriors), 2032 first-round pick (unprotected via Warriors)
The Warriors are the headliners here, trading for two-time MVP Antetokounmpo to pair with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, keeping the title window cracked open.
Minnesota finally lands the star they previously pursued in Durant while the Rockets reset with a different star and get back into the first round of the 2026 draft.
The Bucks receive a combination of win-now veterans, a high-upside guard and three first-round picks, including a lottery selection next month.
Let's dive into what this means for all four teams involved.
Why the Golden State Warriors Do It
2 of 5
The Golden State Warriors finished 10th overall in the mighty Western Conference this season and are now waiting for Jimmy Butler to recover from a torn ACL. This could be a competitive group when healthy, although Stephen Curry now looks more like a sidekick instead of a leading man at age 38.
Getting Giannis Antetokounmpo would change everything for the Warriors.
The 10-time All-Star is only 31 and should have years of elite basketball left in him. Despite playing just 28.9 minutes a game in 2025-26 (the lowest since his rookie season), Antetokounmpo still averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists and shot 62.4 percent overall, the highest mark of his career. Milwaukee improved by 14.8 points per 100 possessions with their star on the court, ranking in the 99th percentile via Cleaning the Glass.
Antetokounmpo's interior dominance is the perfect match for Curry's outside brilliance. The two would form an unstoppable pick-and-roll combo that the Warriors would surround with knockdown shooters from the outside.
With Draymond Green still defending and passing at a high level, Golden State would have their deadliest three-headed monster since Kevin Durant left as a free agent in 2019.
Why the Minnesota Timberwolves Do It
3 of 5
We could be close to having some uncomfortable conversations about the future of Anthony Edwards with the Minnesota Timberwolves. This team needs a second star to help take the pressure off of the 24-year-old, four-time All-Star.
Edwards has previously called Durant his "favorite player of all time" and his "GOAT", while praising his ability to put the ball on the floor and score off the dribble for someone his height.
The Wolves were reportedly interested in Durant at the February 2025 deadline and again last offseason. Second apron restrictions by Minnesota and the Houston Rockets making what was ultimately the best offer led to Durant being traded from the Phoenix Suns to Rockets last summer.
Now, Minnesota is out of the second apron and the Durant experience in Houston ended in the first round. The Timberwolves don't have the trade assets to land Giannis Antetokounmpo, although the asking price for the 37-year-old Durant should be in their price range.
Julius Randle had a fine season overall, yet his three points on 1-of-8 shooting in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the San Antonio Spurs helped end the Wolves' season. Donte DiVincenzo could miss most or all of next season after suffering a torn Achilles last month.
If Minnesota can re-sign Ayo Dosunmu, a starting five of him, Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Durant, and Rudy Gobert with Naz Reid and Terrence Shannon Jr. off the bench would be a force in the West.
Why the Houston Rockets Do It
4 of 5
The Kevin Durant experience did not go well for the Houston Rockets, as well chronicled by ESPN's Ramona Shelburne and Tim MacMahon. They reported that Durant's moodiness and alleged burner account criticizing teammates were just some of the issues that popped up throughout the year.
If the Rockets want out of the Durant business but still crave a veteran star who can bring some much-needed ball-handling to the team, Jimmy Butler would be a strong fit.
The six-time All-Star averaged 20.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists while shooting 51.9 percent overall and 37.6 percent from three. His plus-12.5 swing rating ranked in the 98th percentile and was nearly a career high, per Cleaning the Glass. Butler will likely miss the beginning of the season while recovering from a torn ACL, but would still be back months before the start of the playoffs.
By swapping the two star forwards, the Rockets get a first-round pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2026 draft. Houston's own selection went to the Oklahoma City Thunder who then traded it to the Philadelphia 76ers in the Jared McCain deal.
A starting five of Fred VanVleet, Amen Thompson, Butler, Jabari Smith Jr. and Alperen Şengün features a good blend of youth and vets while containing far more ball-handling and playmaking than the 2025-26 version.
Butler will also be playing on an expiring $56.8 million contract, lining up with a new extension for Thompson.
Why the Milwaukee Bucks Do It
5 of 5
If the Milwaukee Bucks trade Giannis Antetokounmpo, should they be seeking win-now veterans, young players to build around or future draft picks? The answer is all of the above.
It does Milwaukee no good to bottom out, as they don't control their first-round pick until 2031.
Plugging Julius Randle in at power forward helps the Bucks stay competitive. The three-time All-Star averaged 21.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.1 steals. His big, strong frame and physical style of play would pair nicely alongside Myles Turner, a stretch-five.
Brandin Podziemski, 23, could be the new starting shooting guard next to Ryan Rollins in the Bucks' backcourt. He's eligible to sign an extension this offseason after averaging 15.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 43 starts for the Golden State Warriors in 2025-26.
Dorian Finney-Smith could be plugged into the rotation or shopped to a contender and DiVincenzo returns to the franchise that drafted him in 2018. He'll be out for a while recovering from a torn Achilles, although the Bucks can afford to be patient.
Milwaukee also gets three first-round picks in return, including the No. 11 overall selection next month from the Warriors, giving them back-to-back picks in the 2026 lottery. The Bucks also get unprotected firsts from Golden State in 2028 and 2032, with the latter being especially valuable assuming a 44-year-old Stephen Curry has retired by then.
