New Report Details How Often SGA Falls on NBA Playoff Shot Attempts Compared to Wemby, Harden, More
Amid the ongoing debate about Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's knack for drawing fouls, Yahoo Sports' Tom Haberstroh decided to put in the work of going over the film to see how often the Oklahoma City Thunder star falls down relative to his peers.
Specifically, Haberstroh looked at playoff games this season in which there wasn't a foul called on Gilgeous-Alexander and compared the data to notable whistle-getters like Victor Wembanyama, James Harden, Donovan Mitchell and Jalen Brunson.
The results showed Gilgeous-Alexander fell down 20 times on 187 field-goal attempts (10.7 percent) in which there was no foul called, the highest rate of the five players Haberstroh tracked.

Harden was second at 8.7 percent, followed by Brunson at 7.9 percent, Mitchell at 7.6 percent and Wembanyama at 0.6 percent.
The results are even more lopsided on plays that ended with a foul called, as Gilgeous-Alexander fell down 51.4 percent of the time (19-of-37). None of the other four players eclipsed 30 percent.
Harden was also second in that category (12-of-41), with Wembanyama taking a huge leap up to 25.0 percent (7-of-28).
Gilgeous-Alexander ranked second in total number of times falling down on plays without a foul called. Mitchell was atop the list at 26 falls, but it came on nearly twice as many field-goal attempts as the reigning two-time NBA MVP (342 to 187).
Wembanyama and Gilgeous-Alexander were the only players from this list with fewer than 200 field-goal attempts. Wemby was credited with falling down just one time in 164 field goals attempted.
All together, Gilgeous-Alexander has hit the court 39 times on 224 shots (17.4 percent). Harden is second at 11.9 percent, with Brunson in third at 9.0, Mitchell in fourth at 8.4 and Wembanyama in fifth at 4.2.
Haberstroh did make sure to point out this was not an attempt to accuse Gilgeous-Alexander of flopping. His style of play does lend itself to getting hit because he attacks the paint and has made a good living by being a mid-range savant.
Gilgeous-Alexander's 9.8 free-throw attempts per game this postseason ranks second, behind Orlando's Paolo Banchero at 10.6 atttempts. He finished third in that category during the regular season, with only Luka Donฤiฤ and Deni Avdija ahead of him.
Mitchell is the only player among the five tracked by Haberstroh who ranks outside the top 20 in free-throw attempts per game in these playoffs.
