New Giannis Trade Rumors on Lakers' Potential Offer, How It Stacks Up vs. Other NBA Teams
If the Milwaukee Bucks decide to move on from Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers reportedly could be in the mix for the star.
ESPN's Shams Charania offered some insight into what kind of offer the Lakers would make for Antetokounmpo during an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show on Wednesday.
"The Lakers expressed interest in Giannis at the [trade] deadline," Charania said (12:00 mark). "Right now, what they'll be able to offer is three first-round picks, cap space and essentially absorb Giannis' contract."
But draft picks and cap space might not be enough to entice the Bucks, according to Charania.
"Now, if you're the Bucks, are you just gonna trade Giannis to the Lakers for cap space and three first-round picks? My sense is they're going to get better in the marketplace than that," Charania said. "I think there's a bigger appetite than that, and so time will tell."
The pairing of Antetokounmpo and Luka Donฤiฤ alone would likely be enough for the Lakers to compete with top teams in the West like the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs, but the team also has the chance to retain both Austin Reaves and LeBron James.
It seems now that the Lakers' offer for Antetokounmpo might be weak in comparison to others, but the two-time MVP's true value should be a little clearer in the coming weeks.
