Shams Says MSG Was Shaking 'Like an Earthquake' During Brunson, Knicks' Epic Comeback vs. Cavs
There's no indication that the area near Madison Square Garden registered on the Richter Scale amid the New York Knicks' comeback against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Appearing on Wednesday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show (starts at 7:20 mark), ESPN's Shams Charania said MSG was shaking "like an earthquake" while the Knicks erased a 22-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
The Knicks, who had nine days off after sweeping the Philadelphia 76ers, looked like a team coming off an extended break for the first 44 minutes of Game 1. They fell behind 93-71 with 7:40 remaining in the fourth quarter.
From that point on, the Knicks went on a 44-11 run. They outscored Cleveland 30-8 over the final 7:40 of regulation to force overtime, then scored the first nine points in the extra period.
New York went on to win 115-104 for its eighth straight victory this postseason. It also marked the first time in 644 playoff games that a team won a game trailing by at least 20 points with seven minutes remaining in regulation.
When you add all of those things together, it's not a surprise that Madison Square Garden and its surrounding areas full of Knicks fans would be excited enough to make the arena shake.
Those fans hopefully saved some of their energy because Game 2 between the Cavaliers and Knicks at MSG will be played on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
