Devin Vassell Sends Message to NBA with Quote After Spurs' Game 1 Win vs. Thunder
The San Antonio Spurs put together a tremendous regular season, but there were still plenty of questions about the young squad as they went into their first playoffs since 2019.
The Spurs answered many of those questions with an emphatic win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.
After the win, Spurs guard Devin Vassell said what many have likely been thinking about San Antonio.
"The league is in trouble for a very long time," Vassell told reporters.
The Spurs had the youngest starting lineup in a conference finals game in NBA history on Tuesday, with an average age of 22 years, 346 days. They looked like a group of veterans as they survived in double overtime.
It all starts with MVP candidate Victor Wembanyama, who had 41 points, 24 rebounds and three blocks in his first-ever conference finals game. But San Antonio also got a double-double from Stephon Castle, as well as 24 points, 11 boards, six assists and seven steals from rookie Dylan Harper.
If the Spurs can keep that core together, while adding even more talent in the coming years, they could be well on their way to being the NBA's next dynasty.
