After LeBron's Diss, Grizzlies Lead 'No-Trade' Wish List by NBA Players in New Anonymous Poll
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James apparently isn't alone in his dismissive attitude toward the Memphis market.
In an anonymous poll of NBA players conducted by The Athletic's Sam Amick, Josh Robbins and Joe Vardon, the Memphis Grizzlies were the overwhelming pick when players were asked to identify the first team on their no-trade list.
Forty-three of the 120 players selected the Grizzlies. The Washington Wizards (14 votes) and Sacramento Kings (13 votes) were the next two teams.
"I'll play anywhere, honestly," one player said. "But I would have to say Memphis is a place I don't want to live. So that would be the reason why I wouldn't want to play there."
A different player said his choice wasn't a reflection of the Grizzlies as an organization.
"It's the location of the team," he said.
While appearing on the Bob Does Sports YouTube show in April, James suggested he might've executed a power play in the event the Grizzlies won the 2003 NBA draft lottery instead of the Cleveland Cavaliers. He said Nashville would be a better NBA market.
The future Hall of Famer followed up to say his biggest issue with Memphis is the accommodations road players have when traveling to the city.
His comments sparked a wider discussion, with NBA commissioner Adam Silver weighing in to say the Grizzlies aren't leaving Memphis anytime soon. He added, however, that Nashville could be a staging ground for a small handful of games.
The anonymous player poll may add more ammunition to the Memphis skeptics.
