David Beckham Becomes UK's First Billionaire Athlete, What is Former Man United Star's Net Worth?

Soccer legend and former England captain Sir David Beckham has added another unique distinction to his iconic resume.

The BBC reported that Beckham is now the first athlete from the United Kingdom to become a billionaire.

According to the BBC, the net worth of Beckham and his wife, Victoria, has reached £1.185 billion ($1.6 billion). They are now second among all sportspeople in the UK behind only the family of ex-Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, whose net worth is valued at £2 billion ($2.7 billion).

Beckham, who was a six-time Premier League champion with Manchester United, is now a co-owner of Inter Miami in the MLS, which is estimated as the league's most valuable franchise at $1.45 billion. He's also a brand ambassador for companies such as Adidas and Hugo Boss, and he was officially knighted in November. Victoria's wealth from her fashion label further boosts the 51-year-old's income.

Some of the other athletes on the list included seven-time F1 champion Sir Lewis Hamilton (£435 million/$580.1 million), two-time Masters champion Rory McIlroy (£325 million/$433.6 million), former two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (£240 million/$320.1 million) and former unified heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (£162 million/$216.1 million).
