Cavs Steal Game 5 in OT After Late Comeback as Harden, Mitchell Key Win vs. Cunningham, Pistons
The Cleveland Cavaliers are a win away from the Eastern Conference Finals after taking Game 5 of their second-round series against the Detroit Pistons.
The Cavs downed the Pistons 117-113 in overtime behind a tremendous performance from James Harden. The veteran guard, who joined the team at the trade deadline, posted 30 points, six assists and eight boards in the win.
Donovan Mitchell struggled for most of the game and especially in the fourth quarter, but the star guard turned things around in overtime to finish with 21 points.
Cade Cunningham put together one of the best games of his young career, dropping 37 points, nine assists, seven boards and two steals, but that wasn't enough to pull out the win in overtime.
Jalen Duren's struggles continued on Wednesday as the Most Improved Player finalist had just nine points, playing briefly in the fourth quarter but mostly riding the bench in the final quarter and overtime. The Pistons will need the big man to clean things up in Game 6 to avoid a season-ending loss.
The Cavs are now just one win away from their first Eastern Conference Finals since the 2017-18 season, when LeBron James was still leading the way. A win in Game 6 would get them a matchup with the New York Knicks, who swept the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round.
