Ohio State has reserved the "Buckeye Stripe" for College Football Playoff games dating back to the 2014 season.
The gray stripe was at one point a staple of the Buckeyes' look, but it was removed after the 2005 season.
Its most recent appearance came during the 2025 College Football Playoff Championship Game when the Buckeyes defeated Notre Dame in their road white jerseys.
Ohio State director of football equipment Kevin Ries told Joey Kaufman of the Columbus Dispatch in December 2022 that saving the Buckeye Stripe exclusively for the College Football Playoff was a way to pay homage to previous national championship teams.
The Buckeyes will re-debut their Buckeye Stripe look in their red home jerseys when they kickoff the 2026 season against Ball State at Ohio Stadium on Sept. 5.
