Wemby Says 'Rage-Baiting' is Among Wolves' Strategies After Exchange with Ayo Dosunmu in Spurs Win
San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama discussed the Minnesota Timberwolves' attempts to frustrate him during their second-round playoff series following the Spurs' 126-97 win in Game 5 on Tuesday.
"I feel like the rage-baiting would have been maybe one of the strategies so I feel like, need to stay composed as a team," Wembanyama told reporters after the game.
Wembanyama and Timberwolves guard Ayo Dosunmu exchanged words after the 2026 Defensive Player of the Year got tangled up with Minnesota's Jaden McDaniels in the first quarter.
San Antonio was ultimately able to secure the lopsided victory and take a 3-2 series lead largely due to the heroics of Wembanyama, who scored 27 points and pulled down 17 rebounds while picking up three blocks.
He shot 9-of-16 from the field and 2-of-5 from behind the arc.
Wembanyama was previously ejected from Game 4 of the series, receiving a Flagrant 2 foul after his swinging elbow hit Timberwolves center Naz Reid in the chin.
Minnesota is looking to secure its third consecutive Western Conference Finals appearance and is coming off a first-round series victory over the Denver Nuggets.
McDaniels called out multiple Denver players for their defense after Game 2 of the series before he was involved in a brief physical altercation with Nuggets star Nikola Jokić near the end of Game 4.
Now, Wembanyama is looking to avoid getting frustrated by the Timberwolves and help the Spurs reach the Conference Finals for the first time since 2017.
The 22-year-old has put together an impressive 2025-26 campaign, averaging 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.1 blocks per game on 51.2/34.9/82.7 shooting splits during the regular season.
Wembanyama was unanimously voted as Defensive Player of the Year and was also selected as an MVP finalist.
San Antonio will attempt to close out Minnesota in Game 6 on Friday. Tip-off is at 9:30 p.m. ET.
