SGA 'Loves' Criticism About Free-Throw Rate, 'They Can Pick On Me All They Want'

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has developed a reputation for hunting free throws, but he's not letting any criticisms get to him.

ESPN's Tim MacMahon and Anthony Slater spoke to Gilgeous-Alexander about being dubbed a "free throw merchant," and the 27-year-old completely brushed it off while pointing out that he's not the only player to use the strategy.

"I really don't care at all," Gilgeous-Alexander said. "The players that I grew up loving and watching when I fell in love with the game, they used their skill and their tactics to get to the free throw line. It's just how the game has been picked up, and I'm not the only one that's ever done it. They can pick on me all they want, but I love it. It's amazing."

MacMahon and Slater noted that Gilgeous-Alexander led the league in drives per game the previous five years before ranking third this season, so it's no secret that he's looking to draw contact.

Gilgeous-Alexander has helped the Thunder build a 3-0 series lead against the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals. Oklahoma City will look to close things out in Monday night's Game 4 as the team continues to chase a second straight NBA championship.
