New NBA Rumors on AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer After Wizards Win Draft Lottery 2026

Zach BacharMay 11, 2026

The Washington Wizards could consider players such as Kansas guard Darryn Peterson and Duke forward Cameron Boozer over BYU forward AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 overall pick after winning the 2026 draft lottery on Sunday.

Yahoo Sports' Kevin O'Connor reported Monday that "it's not like every single executive or scout around the league believes Dybantsa is a better prospect than Boozer or Peterson."

O'Connor also noted that the Wizards could attempt to trade down from the No. 1 spot or view Peterson and Boozer as better fits on their roster compared to Dybantsa.

North Carolina forward Caleb Wilson will also be considered by Washington, per Josh Robbins of The Athletic.

"The Wizards will continue to evaluate Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer and Caleb Wilson closely," Robbins reported Monday. "I suspect their deliberations and data collection will lead them to Dybantsa. He is someone the Wizards don't have on their roster: a multifaceted offensive wing who can score adeptly at all three levels. And I agree that he's a safer pick than Peterson."

Washington was projected to select Dybantsa at No. 1 in the latest mock draft from Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman.

"Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer are each No. 1 on various scouts' boards," Wasserman wrote. "But there is still some hesitation around Peterson's shot difficulty and lack of playmaking evidence at Kansas. And a fraction of NBA staff still believe Boozer's lack of explosion/quickness will restrict his advantage-creation, limit his defensive effectiveness and consequently block roads to upside."

Dybantsa is coming off an impressive freshman season with the Cougars, averaging 25.5 points and 6.8 rebounds to go along with 3.7 assists per game. He was efficient around the rim despite his 33.1 three-point percentage, connecting on 56.8 percent of his two-point field goals.

The 2026 NBA draft starts on June 23 at 8 p.m. ET.
