5-Star CB Donte Wright Flips Commitment After Initially Pledging to Play at Georgia
Georgia has lost a commitment from one of the top recruits in the Class of 2027.
Five-star cornerback Donte Wright has flipped his commitment from Georgia to Miami, he announced Saturday on social media.
Wright, who plays high school football in Long Beach, California, had committed to Georgia in June 2025.
He is listed as the No. 9 national prospect and No. 2 cornerback in the 2027 class by 247Sports composite rankings.
Wright had continued visiting schools since that commitment as Miami, Oregon and Oklahoma worked to flip him.
He will now join Mario Cristobal's program as the first five-star Hurricanes recruit for 2027, per 247Sports.
Wright joins seven other blue-chip prospects and two fellow top-20 recruits, quarterback Israel Abrams and wide receiver Nick Lennear, in what 247Sports ranks as the No. 10 recruiting class in the nation.
247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins described Wright as a "coverage ace that could be a difference-maker for any Power Four defense with his speed, twitch and physicality."
Miami is heading into the 2026 season with a new cornerbacks coach after losing Zac Etheridge to a job with the Arizona Cardinals.
247Sports' Matt Zenitz recently reported that Cristobal had promoted former nickel coach Terry Jefferson to take over for Etheridge.
Jefferson spent last season working with players including former Miami cornerback Keionte Scott, who was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 2026 draft.
Wright's commitment comes after Jefferson took a recent recruiting trip to the West Coast, per 247Sports' Gaby Urrutia.
This marks Georgia's second recent de-commitment by a blue-chip defender. Jerry Outhouse Jr., the No. 100 prospect and No. 14 cornerback in 247Sports composite rankings, flipped from Georgia to UCLA earlier this month.
Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart will be tasked with recruiting replacements for Wright and Outhouse as Georgia looks to bolster a 2027 recruiting class currently ranked No. 30 in the nation by 247Sports.
