Chicago Bulls' Top Needs After 2026 NBA Draft Lottery Results
The NBA Draft lottery is in the books, and the Chicago Bulls are now set at pick No. 4.
As they continue to evaluate the prospects who may be available there, we're here to break down the biggest needs for Chicago to address in the draft.
Cornerstone Talent
The Bulls have been mired in mediocrity for years. So, while they've had plenty of recent lottery picks, they haven't had a lot high in the lottery.
So, with apologies to Matas Buzelis, it should come as little surprise that Chicago doesn't really have a surefire future superstar on the roster. Of course, that's the hope with any draft pick, so calling it a "need" may feel a little like cheating. But it's really just another way of saying that Chicago is a team that should clearly be thinking "best player available" rather than attempting to address any specific weaknesses.
Offensive Engine
You could maybe argue that the Bulls sort of have this box checked by Josh Giddey, who's averaged 15.7 points and 8.0 assists, while shooting 37.1 percent from deep, since joining the organization, but he's never really moved the needle for his team's offense.
Pairing him with another high-level playmaking talent, as he was with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on the Oklahoma City Thunder, could take a lot of pressure off Giddey while making life easier for forwards and bigs like Buzelis.
Realistic Draft Targets at No. 4 Pick
- Caleb Wilson (North Carolina, PF)
- Keaton Wagler (Illinois, G)
- Darius Acuff Jr. (Arkansas, G)
If the Bulls are targeting a guard, they'll have no shortage of options. The two listed above offer a variety of styles, whether you're into the scoring and creating of Darius Acuff Jr. or the size and versatility of Keaton Wagler. There are even guards projected outside the Top 5, like Louisville's Mikel Brown Jr. or Houston's Kingston Flemings, who are worth a look.
But with the No. 4 pick, Chicago shouldn't look much further than Caleb Wilson, who was fourth overall on B/R Draft Expert Jonathan Wasserman's Mock Draft most of the season.
Wilson would fit the "best player available" here and would be a potential fit for that cornerstone piece Chicago so desperately craves.
Of course, Wasserman's reporting on Wilson reveals that some NBA front office members actually prefer the North Carolina product to projected top-3 prospect Cameron Boozer out of Duke. If Wilson sneaks into the Top 3, that changes everything for the Bulls, as Boozer—or perhaps Kansas guard Darryn Peterson—slides down to 4 and instantly becomes the favorite in "best player available" discussions.
But assuming that's not the case, and that the Top 3 goes as it's been projected for months, Caleb Wilson feels like the play in Chicago.
