New NBA Rumors on Steve Kerr's Talks With Warriors on Future, Timeline for Decision
Talks between the Golden State Warriors and head coach Steve Kerr regarding his future with the organization have "continued all week," according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
The timeline for a decision on Kerr's status moving forward is "still difficult to pinpoint," per Stein.
ESPN's Shams Charania, Ramona Shelburne and Anthony Slater reported Warriors controlling governor Joe Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy met with the head coach for two hours to discuss his future on April 27.
Kerr previously weighed in on his outlook with Golden State after the team was eliminated in the Western Conference play-in tournament.
"We'll talk about what's next for the Warriors, what the plan is this offseason," Kerr said April 17, per the Associated Press. "And we will come to a collaborative decision on what's next. I don't know what's going to happen. I still love coaching. But I get it. These jobs all have an expiration date. there's a run that happens, and when the run ends, sometimes it's time for new blood and new ideas and all that.
"And, if that's the case, then I will be just nothing but grateful for the most amazing opportunity any person could have to coach this franchise, in front of our fans in the Bay and to coach Steph Curry, to coach Dray and the whole group."
The Warriors' 2025-26 campaign marked the final year of Kerr's contract, as he didn't agree on an extension with the team before the season came to a close.
At 60 years old, he's the second-oldest head coach in the NBA and only trails Rick Carlisle of the Indiana Pacers.
Kerr has spent 12 seasons as Golden State's head coach, compiling a 604-353 overall record. The Warriors have won four championships during his tenure, as he took home Coach of the Year honors during the 2015-16 season.
