Warriors' Steve Kerr Finishes 4th in NBA Player Poll of Least Impressive HC's, Full Results Revealed

Despite being one of the most-decorated head coaches in NBA history, Steve Kerr landed in an unfavorable spot as part of a recent survey of NBA players.

Josh Robbins, Sam Amick and Joe Vardon of The Athletic polled 100 anonymous NBA players and asked them several questions, including which head coach they find least impressive besides their own.

Kerr landed fourth on that list with 6 percent of the vote, behind only the Washington Wizards' Brian Keefe, the Milwaukee Bucks' Doc Rivers and the Sacramento Kings' Doug Christie.

The 60-year-old Kerr has been the Golden State Warriors' head coach since 2014, and he has led the team to enormous success during his 12 years at the helm.

Kerr owns a regular-season record of 604-353 (.631) and a playoff record of 104-48 (.684). He has also taken the Warriors to the NBA Finals six times and won four championships.

Although Kerr has the sixth-most championships by a head coach in NBA history and the second-highest playoff winning percentage among those who have coached at least 40 postseason games, the Warriors' recent lack of success likely contributed heavily to his placement in the poll.

Golden State has reached the playoffs only three times in the past seven seasons, and it has not advanced past the second round of the playoffs since 2022.

This season, as Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler missed significant chunks of the season due to injury, the Dubs went just 37-45, which was their worst mark since 2020.

Kerr still got the Warriors to within one game of the playoffs, but they fell to the Phoenix Suns in the final postseason play-in game.

One player who voted for Kerr as the coach they are least impressed with told The Athletic that Kerr dropping Jonathan Kuminga from the rotation before his eventual trade to the Atlanta Hawks played a role in their decision.

"I think he's a great coach," the player said. "I just thought the way he handled the Kuminga situation wasn't very smart."

Kerr still has some supporters in the NBA despite how this season played out, as evidenced by the fact that 2.7 percent of the anonymous players polled named Kerr as the head coach they find most impressive.

Given all of the winning Kerr has done and his status as a likely future Hall of Famer, it is easy to see why some appreciate him and his body of work.

Despite his numerous accomplishments, it is possible Kerr has coached his last game for the Warriors and in the NBA in general since his contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the season.

Speaking to reporters after the Warriors' play-in loss to the Suns, Kerr acknowledged that he may have reached the end of the line, saying, "I don't know what's going to happen. I still love coaching, but I get it. These jobs all have an expiration date. There is a run that happens, and when the run ends, sometimes it's time for new blood and new ideas."
