Anthony Edwards Hypes Mike Conley After Wolves' Win vs. Spurs, 'When I Played 2K, I Played With You'
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards hyped Mike Conley after both guards helped the Wolves open the second round of the 2026 NBA playoffs with a Game 1 win over the San Antonio Spurs.
"Mike Conley was an All-Star in the NBA. I think people forget about that," Edwards said after returning from a left knee injury to lead the Timberwolves to a 104-102 victory on Monday night in San Antonio.
Edwards continued, "Once upon a time, he was one of the best point guards in the league. And I always tell him that, like, 'Mike, you used to be one of my favorite players. When I used to play 2k, I used to play with you and just run by everybody, shoot floaters and shoot layups all day long.'"
Conley contributed six assists and two rebounds Monday night to help the Wolves overcome stifling defense from Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.
He ultimately outscored Wembanyama by contributing 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the field and 4-for-7 shooting for deep.
Edwards, who was initially expected to miss weeks after hyperextending his left knee and suffered a bone bruise in Game 4 of the first round, returned nine days later to contribute 18 points in 25 minutes off the bench.
Conley had compared Edwards to himself earlier in his NBA career when speaking to reporters ahead of Game 1.
When playing for the Grizzlies in 2015, Conley suffered a facial fracture only to return to the lineup four playoff games later.
"That was probably similar, where you shouldn't be playing, but you do anyway," Conley said. "You win the game, and it just sparks your team, somehow... him doing that, I saw a lot of myself in that, so I'm super proud of him."
Conley was moved three times at the trade deadline, during which the Wolves initially dealt him to the Chicago Bulls in a salary-saving move before he was sent to the Charlotte Hornets and waived.
The Wolves then re-signed him at a lower salary, a move that paid off during Edwards' injury absence in the first round. Conley played more than 26 minutes while contributing seven points, six rebounds and three assists to the Wolves' series-clinching Game 6 win over the Denver Nuggets.
The Timberwolves will hope having both Edwards and Conley available going forward will give the team enough backcourt depth to continue challenging Wembanyama when this second-round series resumes Wednesday night at 9:30 p.m. ET in San Antonio.
