Victor Wembanyama Responds to Critics of His On-Court Emotions After Spurs' Playoff Win vs. Blazers
San Antonio Spurs star center Victor Wembanyama didn't hesitate to let his emotions flow after the team defeated the Portland Trail Blazers to advance to the Western Conference semifinals.
Unfortunately, the 22-year-old's emotional display led some detractors to call him out for what they perceived as weakness.
Maxime Aubin of L'Équipe in France asked Wembanyama about those who criticized him for the raw moment, and he responded confidently.

"That's a tough question. I think it's first and foremost a fear of judgment. Like this feeling that you have to act a certain way, social codes, I guess," Wembanyama said. "Personally, I refuse to carry the burden of having to hide my emotions."
The Spurs haven't advanced past the first round of the playoffs since 2017, so Wembanyama had every right to cry happy tears while celebrating his team's accomplishment.
However, Wembanyama and the rest of his teammates know that the job's not done, so they will be motivated to keep the momentum going when San Antonio opens its semifinal series against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night.
