Anthony Edwards Injury Update, Latest on Wolves Star's Status, Return Timeline Ahead of Spurs Series

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is expected to miss the start of his team's second-round playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported Sunday (55-second mark) that he is "expected to be out to start this second-round series. So he'll be missing Game 1, likely Game 2 as well.

However, NBA insider Chris Haynes reports Edwards is listed as questionable for Game 1, so there is at least some hope he could play:

"But he did his first workouts in on Saturday and Sunday after missing about a week now with that hyperextension bone bruise in his knee. ... There's optimism around team sources about his status overall. And I'm told Anthony Edwards himself is hopeful that he could push to be back in the lineup for potentially Game 3 or Game 4."

Edwards also released a YouTube video on Sunday providing a look into his rehab. The video includes an interview with Timberwolves' vice president of medical performance David Hines, who noted his recovery timeline is one-to-two weeks.

The main image for the video also has the caption, "Don't count me out," signaling Edwards is eyeing a return to the court.

Edwards previously exited Minnesota's 112-96 win over the Denver Nuggets in Game 4 of their first-round playoff series due to a left knee injury on April 25. The following day, Charania reported the four-time All-Star was expected to miss multiple weeks.

While Edwards didn't play for the remainder of the series, the Timberwolves were still able to take down the Nuggets in six games.

According to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, Edwards told his teammates that he was planning to return at some point during Minnesota's second-round series against the San Antonio Spurs.

The 24-year-old has put together an impressive 2025-26 campaign, ranking No. 3 among all players with his scoring average of 28.8 points per game in the regular season. Edwards also recorded 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals on a nightly basis while shooting 48.9 percent from the field.

While he only averaged 18.5 points per game on 35.8/25.8/85.7 shooting splits in the first round against Denver, it's worth noting that he played through runner's knee in his right leg.

While Edwards is sidelined, the Timberwolves will rely on their backcourt depth as they look to make a third consecutive Western Conference Finals appearance.
