LeBron James Jokes About Battle with Father Time After Lakers' Win, 'I'm Kicking His Ass'
The Los Angeles Lakers are moving onto the Western Conference semifinals in part because 41-year-old LeBron James, in his 23rd NBA season, posted 28 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in his team's 98-78 road win over the Houston Rockets to close out their first round matchup on Friday.
After the game, host Taylor Rooks asked James on the NBA on Prime postgame show what the score was between him and Father Time. James provided the honest (and correct) answer.
The Lakers needed a great effort from James without leading scorer Luka Dončić for the entire series (Grade 2 left hamstring strain) and second-leading scorer Austin Reaves for the first four games (Grade 2 left oblique muscle strain).
James averaged 23.2 points, 8.3 assists and 7.2 rebounds in six games against the Rockets. He was exceptional in five of six games outside of one off-night for Game 4 that ultimately proved to be irrelevant.
For the regular season, James posted 20.9 points on 51.0 percent shooting, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds despite being the team's third option.
Needless to say, James is still doing great, and he's defying time and logic as he excels well into his third NBA decade.
James and the Lakers now have a tall task ahead in the second round when they face the defending NBA champion (and No. 1 seed) Oklahoma City Thunder. Game 1 will be Tuesday in Oklahoma City.
