Rich Paul Says LeBron James' Legacy Wouldn't Be Impacted if Lakers Blow 3-0 NBA Playoffs Lead
LeBron James' longtime friend and business partner Rich Paul dismissed the idea that LeBron's legacy will be negatively impacted if the Los Angeles Lakers blow a 3-0 series lead against the Houston Rockets in the first round of the 2026 NBA playoffs.
Speaking Friday on his Game Over podcast with Max Kellerman (beginning at the 44:04 mark), Paul expressed his belief that James' legacy has long been solidified, and he preemptively chastised anyone who wants to challenge that idea (h/t NBA Courtside).
"It doesn't affect it," Paul said. "LeBron's legacy is etched in stone since 2016 … for people with common sense. If they do lose, all the people on talk shows will have the conversation and put it in a negative light. I see a lot of guys on shows who talk. I want to come up with a rule, if you weren't better than the player you're talking about, you shouldn't be able to talk about him. That'd eliminate 99.9 percent of the ex-players that talk about him."

How NBA Playoffs Exposing Terrible Trades and Contracts 😬
The 41-year-old James is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in NBA history, and he has the accolades to back it up with 22 All-Star selections, four NBA MVP awards, four NBA championships, four NBA Finals MVP awards and the all-time NBA scoring record.
Everything else at this point in his career is gravy, and James is trying to perhaps inch closer to Michael Jordan's six career championships.
LeBron helped lead the Lakers to the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference this season, and they raced out to a 3-0 series lead over the Rockets despite being without two of their three best players in Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves due to injury.
James took a backseat to Dončić during the regular season in terms of scoring, resulting in him matching the lowest scoring average of his career at 20.9 points per game.
However, James' role has increased during the playoffs with Dončić yet to play and Reaves appearing in only one game, and he is leading the Lakers with 22.2 points per contest.
With their backs against the wall, the Rockets won Games 4 and 5 to stay alive in the series, and if they win Game 6 on Friday night, they will force a decisive Game 7.
While blowing a 3-0 lead would be a massive disappointment in what could be James' final season with the Lakers or even the final season of his career, it certainly wouldn't erase or overshadow everything he has accomplished during his 23-year career.
