Pat Riley Updates Heat Future, 'Really Pissed' by Team's Performance amid NBA Retirement Buzz

Miami Heat president Pat Riley has not been pleased with his team's performance over the past few seasons, but he's not ready to call it a career just yet.

While speaking to reporters on Monday, Riley declared that while he's "pissed" about the team's recent struggles, he isn't planning on retiring.

"I'm not going to retire. I'm not going to resign. I'm not going to step aside," Riley told reporters. "… I have the same attitude as I had in that press conference on the Imagination, period. I want another parade down Biscayne Boulevard. It may come. It may not."

Since losing to the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 NBA Finals, the Heat have not advanced past the first round of the playoffs. This season, Miami finished with a 43-39 record and missed the postseason after losing in the play-in tournament. Riley didn't hold back his displeasure over how the last four years have gone.

"I'm really pissed," he said. "I'm disappointed. Disgruntled, just like everybody else in the organization that understands what we're about. We're about winning."

The Heat have a talented roster led by veterans Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro and Norman Powell. While they ranked second in the NBA this season with 120.9 points per game, their defense wasn't up to par, as they ranked 22nd with an average of 118.5 points allowed.

Riley added that Miami will remain "aggressive as hell" in trying to improve its roster. The Heat were reported as one of the teams that pursued star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo ahead of this year's trade deadline before the Milwaukee Bucks opted to retain him.

"We're not good enough. We're not happy with it," Riley said.

It can be expected that the Heat will be among the most active teams this offseason as they try to build a roster that can help the franchise return to title contention next year.
