Lamine Yamal Suffers Major Injury After Penalty, Latest Timeline for Barcelona Star Before World Cup
Lamine Yamal reportedly suffered a potential torn hamstring after converting a penalty during Wednesday's 1-0 win over Celta Vigo.
That is expected to cost him the remainder of Barca's season and perhaps even jeopardize his ability to feature for Spain at the World Cup:
"I hope Lamine misses the [shortest] possible amount of time. He'll undergo the tests tomorrow and we'll see the nature of the issue," Barca midfielder Pedri said after the match. "I wish him all the best, and that he stays calm because he's still young."
It was a rough day for La Liga's leaders, as defender João Cancelo also left the match due to a muscle injury suffered in the first half.
"We hope their injuries are not serious and that they are back with us as soon as possible," Barcelona goalkeeper Joan García added.
Yamal, 18, has been fantastic in the 2025-26 season, registering 24 goals and 17 assists across all competitions. He's firmly lived up to his billing as one of the best young players in the world.
Barcelona, meanwhile, has nearly wrapped up La Liga's title, with a nine-point edge over Real Madrid and just six matches remaining. Barring a meltdown of epic proportions, Barca will claim a second consecutive title (though a May 10 matchup between the clubs still looms large).
Being without Yamal certainly hurts their chances, but the Catalans should have enough of a cushion to get across the line.
