Tuesday Quarterfinals Leg 2 Recap
1 of 2
Atletico 1-2 Barcelona (Atletico win 3-2 on aggregate)
Lamine Yamal gave Barca the perfect start, latching onto Ferran Torres' through pass and sneaking the ball under Juan Musso's legs. It was 2-0 on the 24-minute mark, Ferran this time finishing brilliantly after Dani Olmo split the defense.
A disaster start for Atletico nearly got worse seconds later. Yamal's outrageous cross found Fermin Lopez free in the box, but he could only head the ball towards the onrushing Musso, taking a bloody nose in the process.
Barca instantly rued the missed chance. Marcos Llorente burst down the wing and played a pinpoint ball towards Ademola Lookman, who lifted the ball beyond Joan Garcia to make it 2-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate with just 31 minutes on the clock.
A crazy game continued right after the break, as Barca's sustained pressure saw Ferran stick the ball into Musso's top corner. He ran off in celebration, before VAR intervened to disallow the goal for offside.
Just like the first leg, Barca finished the game with 10 men after Eric Garcia pulled back Alexander Sorloth while he was through on goal.
The incident effectively ended the contest, with Diego Simeone's men advancing to face the winner of Arsenal or Sporting.
Liverpool 0-2 PSG (PSG win 4-0 on aggregate)
Liverpool boss Arne Slot created headlines prior to kick-off with his decision to bench the departing Mo Salah, despite Liverpool needing at least three goals after being brushed aside in France last week.
As fate would have it, Salah entered the pitch with half an hour on the clock after Hugo Ekitike was carried off with an injury. He nearly made an instant impact, too, as Virgil van Dijk connected with his pass that caused chaos into the PSG box.
Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele also missed a clear opportunity as both sides battled into halftime.
Alexis Mac Allister thought he won a penalty with 25 minutes to go after William Pacho's clumsy contact in the area. VAR stepped in to overrule the on-field decision, angering Anfield with the reversal.
Dembele made up for his miss with 15 minutes to go, scoring a brilliant goal out of very little to end Slot's hopes of silverware for the season.
It all proved too much for Liverpool, who still had time to concede another to Dembele before exiting to the French side for the second successive year.
PSG will now go on to face the winner of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in a mouthwatering semifinal tie.
