Alabama's Ryan Coleman-Williams Says Playing With QB Keelon Russell Feels Like a 'Video Game'
Alabama wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams is liking what he's seeing from redshirt freshman quarterback Keelon Russell, a former 5-star prospect, thus far.
"Literally, it just feels like you're playing a video game when he is in," he told reporters after the Crimson Tide's spring game on Saturday.
"He had confidence coming in," Coleman-Williams added of Russell. "... His freshman year, he'd get into the huddle, and he knew what he was talking about, but it's a lot as a quarterback. So just the way he's commanded and grown from last year to this year, it's light years."
Russell looked good, finishing 21-of-33 for 240 yards, four touchdowns and an interception while leading the team on seven scoring drives on nine total possessions. One of the drives without a score was due to a missed field goal.
Austin Mack, last year's backup to Ty Simpson, was limited after getting "dinged up" but finished 6-of-12 for 101 yards, a touchdown and an interception in five drives.
"We just had to limit Austin just with some stuff," Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer told reporters. "This week was a little bit where Keelon got some more reps just with some things Austin is going through. Austin has been good for the most part but wasn't able to finish [on Saturday]. But he will be fine."
