Oregon quarterbacks coach Koa Ka'ai has a unique way of identifying talent.
Ka'ai explained that he will ask quarterbacks their preference between chocolate or vanilla ice cream and if there's a pause before the answer, "I don't really want that kid because you need to have some kind of conviction" at that position if you're playing in a hostile road environment and hesitating at this question suggests they're "probably going to think about it more than he should."

That seems like an extreme leap to make, but Oregon has had many successful quarterbacks in recent years, including Dillon Gabriel and Dante Moore.
This is Ka'ai's first year as the main quarterbacks coach for the Ducks. He originally joined the staff as an assistant wide receivers coach in 2022 when Dan Lanning took over as head coach.
Ka'ai has been working with Oregon's quarterbacks since the 2024 season.
