Dexter Lawrence Reportedly Traded to Bengals Amid Giants Contract Rumors, Draft Pick Return Revealed

Andrew PetersApr 18, 2026

After failed contract talks with the New York Giants, Dexter Lawrence II is on the move.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Giants traded the defensive tackle to the Cincinnati Bengals in return for a package that includes the No. 10 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft.

According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, that's the full extent of the deal:

Lawrence will also receive a "big-money" contract extension from Cincinnati, via Rapoport.

Bengals star Tee Higgins took to social media to share his reaction:

Lawrence, a first-round pick by the Giants in 2019, requested a trade from New York on April 6 amid a contract standoff. Lawrence has two years remaining on his current deal and is set to make $20 million for the 2026 season.

After Lawrence's trade request, new Giants head coach Jim Harbaugh said that "everybody is tradable," but added that he was confident in Lawrence's return.

"We'll find out," Harbaugh told reporters. "I think the prospects are going to be high because we want Dexter here, I believe Dexter wants to be here. That's a good formula, but there's business involved."

Ultimately, that didn't happen, and Lawrence is on his way out of New York.

Lawrence, 28, is coming off a season in which he recorded 31 tackles, an interception and half a sack in 17 games. That was a relatively poor season by his standards, and perhaps it was the reason why the Giants weren't interested in reworking his deal.

Lawrence, a three-time Pro Bowler, will look to get back on track with Cincinnati and prove that the Giants should have kept him around.
