Giants' John Harbaugh Says 'Everybody Is Tradable' amid Dexter Lawrence, Kayvon Thibodeaux Rumors

Timothy RappApr 7, 2026

New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh responded to the trade rumors surrounding edge-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, just days after defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence also requested a trade amidst a contract dispute.

"I think he's a great player," Harbaugh told reporters regarding Thibodeaux. "I'm thinking about him on the field. You want to talk about, 'Is he a trade possibility?' ... Everybody is tradable. Everybody. But it's not really what you focus on."

Harbaugh did say he believes Lawrence will remain in the Big Apple.

"We'll find out," he told reporters. "I think the prospects are going to be high because we want Dexter here, I believe Dexter wants to be here. That's a good formula, but there's business involved."

Lawrence is seeking a new deal, with two years remaining on his contract but no more guaranteed money. The Giants added $3 million in potential incentives to his contract for the 2025 season—and Lawrence had a poor season by his own standards, registering 31 tackles and 0.5 sacks—so it's unclear if the team will be open to reworking his deal.

But a trade is hardly an ideal solution, given the importance Lawrence has to the defense.

"He's super, super important. He's a cornerstone football player—not really a cornerstone, more like the middle stone," Harbaugh told reporters in March. "He's right in the middle. He's a very big stone, and he's a very active, athletic one."

Thibodeaux, on the other hand, may be surplus to requirements on the edge given the presence of Brian Burns and Abdul Carter. The 25-year-old is in the final year of his rookie contract and has registered just eight sacks in the past two seasons, limited to 22 games in that time. Those factors could make him expendable and a solid trade chip if the Giants want to address other needs on the roster, and it wouldn't be shocking to see him dealt around the NFL draft.

"Right now, Kayvon's going to be with us," general manager Joe Schoen told reporters in February. "He played well. He is going into his fifth year and he's motivated and you can't have enough pass rushers. You really can't. So I'm proud of the development and the maturation of Kayvon and he's come a long way. And I expect big things out of him next year with that rotation."

Time will tell. But if the Giants are going to pull the trigger on a trade, expect it to be Thibodeaux on the move, not Lawrence.
