FIFA World Cup Final Ticket Price Skyrockets During 'Glitch-Hampered Reopening of Sales'

When tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup went back up for sale Wednesday, prices for the July 19 World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, reportedly climbed significantly.

According to the Associated Press, the top ticket price for the final was $10,990 on Wednesday after previously sitting at $8,680 following the World Cup draw in December.

Additionally, the Category 2 tickets for the game went from $5,575 to $7,380, and the Category 3 tickets increased from $4,185 to $5,785.

The AP described Wednesday's rush for World Cup tickets as a "glitch-hampered reopening of sales."

Since it was not announced ahead of time which matches and which levels of tickets would go on sale Wednesday, potential buyers had to search for themselves on a website that "often took hours to enter."

The AP added that there was a glitch that saw those who clicked on a link that said "last-minute sales phase" getting sent to a queue called the "PMA late qualifier supporters sales phase," which was meant only for fans of the six nations that qualified for the World Cup on Tuesday.

FIFA informed the AP that any link issues were fixed as of about noon ET on Wednesday.

This year marks the first time the World Cup has been held in the United States since 1994, and the first time the U.S. has ever co-hosted with Mexico and Canada.

The United States Men's National Team is hoping to go on a deep run on home soil after reaching the round of 16 in 2010, 2014 and 2022.

According to the AP, tickets for the USMNT's group-stage matches against Australia and Türkiye were not up for sale Wednesday. Only tickets for their World Cup opener against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on June 12 were available at a price point of $2,735, which are the highest-priced tickets for that game.

While tickets for only 17 of the 72 group-stage matches and none for the knockout-stage games were available for purchase Wednesday, FIFA announced that more tickets will be put up for sale between now and the start of the World Cup on June 11 on a "rolling basis."
