Ole Miss' Pete Golding Addresses Dabo Swinney's Tampering Claim After Transfer LB Flips From Clemson
Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding responded to tampering claims from Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney after linebacker Luke Ferrelli flipped from the Tigers to the Rebels in the transfer portal.
"I mean, obviously, I think there's two sides to every story, right? And so, I'm not going to sit up here and use the podium as a grandstand and all that," Golding said Tuesday, per Sam Khan Jr. of The Athletic. "I mean, that's why there is enforcement, that's why we have a compliance office, right? They do all that.
"So, bottom line on the recruitment of Luke: he came on an official visit prior to the Fiesta Bowl and I told him, 'Hey, I want you to be our green-dot Mike (linebacker). But right now, we have a green-dot Mike. And that spot's not going to be available until we have one available.'"
Khan noted that the "green-dot Mike" linebacker Golding referenced was TJ Dottery, who served as Ole Miss' leading tackler in 2025 before transferring to LSU on Jan. 16.
Ferrelli initially announced that he was transferring from Cal to Clemson on Jan. 6, but ended up flipping his commitment to Ole Miss on Jan. 22.
Swinney called out Golding the following day.
"This is a whole other level of tampering," Swinney said, per ESPN's David Hale. "It's total hypocrisy. ... This is a really sad state of affairs. We have a broken system, and if there are no consequences for tampering, then we have no rules and we have no governance."
The NCAA later opened an investigation into Swinney's accusations, although no resolution has been reached yet.
