LeBron James to Cavs? NBA Execs Dish on Potential Contract, Fit amid Lakers Rumors
Multiple NBA front office members interviewed by ESPN's Dave McMenamin and Tim Bontemps reportedly believe LeBron James could close out his NBA career with a return to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
James is currently playing with the Los Angeles Lakers on an expiring contract, and he has not yet confirmed whether he plans to retire after the 2025-26 season.
One Eastern Conference executive described a return to the Cavaliers as "the cleanest fit" for James, according to McMenamin and Bontemps.

A scout for a Western Conference team meanwhile told McMenamin and Bontemps: "I always thought it made the most sense for him to go back home."
James played 11 seasons over two separate stints for the Cavaliers, including the first seven campaigns of his NBA career and the franchise's first championship season in 2016.
In January, McMenamin reported that "multiple team and league sources told ESPN the Cavaliers would gladly welcome James back this summer if he wanted to return."
McMenamin and Bontemps named the Cavaliers' Jarrett Allen as a player who could potentially be part of a sign-and-trade deal for James this offseason.
Allen is set to cost the Cavaliers a cap hit of $28 million next season, per Spotrac, so moving him could help Cleveland make room for James' next contract.
James has yet to confirm that he plans to return for a 24th NBA season next fall. Whether he comes back for his age-42 season could depend at least in part on his health after a potential postseason run with the Lakers, who could clinch a playoff spot with a Tuesday night win over the visiting Cavaliers.
