'Invincible Bron,' LeBron Tells His Side of Viral Backboard-Breaking Story with Bronny in New Video
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James provided some additional context Monday night to a story that his teammate and son, Bronny James, recently told about the last time they faced each other in a game of one-on-one.
Last week, Bronny said LeBron broke the backboard on their hoop while they were living in Miami when LeBron played for the Heat. Bronny also noted that it occurred while he was beating his dad in one-on-one:
When asked about the story following the Lakers' 120-101 win over the Washington Wizards on Monday night, LeBron essentially confirmed it, while also adding some more details:
LeBron noted that although he did indeed shatter the backboard on their hoop in Miami in 2014, it was an accident.
The elder James added, "He made a couple shots, but that's like Miami Bron. That's like Invincible Bron. So, it's not like he was about to win."
LeBron then recalled that he didn't bother to buy another hoop after the incident, so it essentially spelled the end of father-son one-one-one games in Miami.
Although LeBron is 41 years old, he had the look of "Miami Bron" at times during Monday's win, scoring a game-high 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting to go along with 12 assists and 10 rebounds in his 125th career triple-double.
The NBA announced that James also tied fellow Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most combined career wins in the regular season and playoffs with 1,228.
While LeBron has oftentimes taken a backseat to Luka Donฤiฤ this season, he proved Monday that he can still be the go-to guy, as Donฤiฤ was out due to a suspension stemming from his 16th technical foul.
The Lakers improved to 49-26 on the year by beating the Wizards, further cementing their status as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference.
With 12 wins in their past 13 games, the Lakers are playing some of their best basketball of the season down the stretch, and if "Invincible Bron" shows up in the playoffs like he did in his Miami driveway in 2014, perhaps L.A. has a chance to go on a deep playoff run.
