Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs can no longer finish any lower than No. 2 in the Western Conference standings.
The Spurs locked up a top-2 finish in the West with a lopsided 127-95 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday, as they're now eight games above the Los Angeles Lakers at No. 3.
The Bucks were also eliminated from playoff contention with the loss.

While the Spurs have been in possession of the No. 2 spot in the Western Conference for multiple months, their latest accomplishment is still impressive for a squad that wrapped up a 34-48 finish last season.
San Antonio is also within striking distance of the Oklahoma City Thunder at No. 1, sitting just two games back from Oklahoma City. The Spurs also own the tiebreaker between both teams after winning four of their five regular-season matchups.
It's no secret that Wembanyama's presence has been key in San Antonio's turnaround, especially since he only played in 46 games during the 2024-25 season due to deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft has put himself in the MVP conversation during his 2025-26 campaign, dominating on both ends of the floor.
Wembanyama averaged 24.2 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 50.5 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from behind the arc heading into Saturday's action. He's also recording a league-leading 3.1 blocks per game.
The Spurs haven't solely been successful because of Wembanyama, though.
De'Aaron Fox earned his second career All-Star nod this season, serving as a secondary scoring threat while averaging 6.3 assists compared to just 2.3 turnovers per game.
2025 Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle has taken a step forward throughout his sophomore season, recording 16.6 points per game on 47.1/31.8/73.4 shooting splits.
Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant have also carved out rotation roles on the Spurs during their inaugural campaigns, an impressive achievement considering they're both under 21 years old.
As San Antonio prepares for its first playoff appearance since 2019, it appears to be closing out the regular season on a high note.
