'Let's Three-Peat,' Shohei Ohtani Sends Gifts to Dodgers Teammates with Message Before Opening Day

Paul KasabianMar 26, 2026

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani gifted his teammates a $4,000 Seiko watch alongside a note with a pertinent message on Thursday, when his team began its regular season at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks, per ESPN's Alden González.

The Dodgers are looking to become the first team since the 1998-2000 New York Yankees to win the World Series three straight times.

L.A. won the World Series in 2024 after defeating the New York Yankees in five games. The 2025 Fall Classic was a much tougher affair against the American League champion Toronto Blue Jays. In the end, the Dodgers won in seven games after pulling out a nail-biting 5-4 victory in 11 innings in Game 7.

Ohtani has won the National League MVP each of the past two years to guide the Dodgers. He became the first player in MLB history to post a 50-50 season in 2024 and followed that up with a career-high 55 home runs alongside 102 RBI and a National League-high 1.014 OPS in 2025.

Ohtani also returned to the pitching mound after undergoing Tommy John surgery in Sept. 2023 and posted one of the greatest games in MLB history when he struck out 10 over six shutout innings and hit three home runs in the NL pennant-clinching Game 4 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Dodgers have by far the shortest odds to win this year's World Series at +210, per FanDuel Sportsbook. The Yankees are next on the odds ledger at 10-1.

L.A. returns a host of talent from the World Series teams, including Ohtani, World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto and 2024 and 2025 Fall Classic hero Freddie Freeman. They've also added to their embarrassment of riches this season, including the additions of outfielder Kyle Tucker and closer Edwin Diaz.

So the Dodgers could very well three-peat, which would mark just the fifth time in MLB history that a team won three or more straight World Series.
