JuJu Smith-Schuster Reportedly Signs Giants Contract After Odell Beckham Jr., Braxton Berrios Deals

Joseph ZuckerJun 1, 2026

Veteran wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is embracing a change of scenery after spending the last two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Smith-Schuster signed with the Giants after a workout on Monday, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport. Smith-Schuster becomes the third receiver signed by the team on Monday, joining Odell Beckham Jr. and Braxton Berrios.

A Pro Bowler with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2018, Smith-Schuster acknowledged last fall how his on-field usage has evolved quite a bit. He described himself as an "intangible" option for Kansas City's offense.

"Being able to work where I need to be worked at," he told reporters. "I feel like I'm in a role right now where, wherever (head) coach (Andy Reid) needs to play me at to fill that void and make the best of it."

In terms of his impact on the field, the numbers speak for themselves and not in a positive way.

Smith-Schuster appeared in every game and caught 33 passes for 345 yards and one touchdown. He was particularly anonymous in the second half, combining to have 56 receiving yards in the Chiefs' last nine contests.

Last season wasn't an outlier for the 29-year-old, either. Since the start of 2023, he has 836 yards on 80 receptions.

Without being too critical of Smith-Schuster, his presence was indicative of a bigger problem for Kansas City. The front office has yet to truly replace Tyreek Hill in the receiver room, and that became more glaring with tight end Travis Kelce starting to show his age.

A few years ago, the Chiefs could get away with having a receiving corps led by Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Now, that's not cutting it anymore, and improvements are needed at wideout.

For the Giants, Smith-Schuster is a low-cost addition who provides some depth. Given his age, it's tough to picture him having another year like 2022, when he nearly cracked 1,000 yards.
