Luka Doncic Just Tied Michael Jordan's 40-Year-Old NBA Record in Lakers' Win vs. Pacers

With another big performance in Wednesday's 137-130 win over the Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić put himself in select company.

Dončić finished with 43 points, six rebounds and seven assists. ESPN's Dave McMenamin pointed out he's the first player since Michael Jordan in 1986 to average 40-plus points over a six-game stretch on the road.

The Lakers are surging at the right time of the year. They've won 13 of their last 15, and they return home Friday night against the Brooklyn Nets following their lengthy road trip.

During that stretch, Dončić had a scoring average of 40.7 points, which included a 60-point outburst in a win over the Miami Heat.

Dončić is at least gaining ground in the MVP race. At +1000, he's tied with San Antonio Spurs big man Victor Wembanyama for the second-best odds. The six-time All-Star is trending toward his best finish on the ballot, having placed third in 2023-24.

It's not as though a lot of people were questioning Luka's skill or value on the court coming into the season, but his increased commitment to summer workouts underlined the biggest knock against him. Getting into better shape has paid massive dividends for both he and the Lakers.
