Lakers' LeBron James Criticizes NBA's Replay Center in Video, 'S--t Pisses Me Off'
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James doesn't publicly voice his criticisms very often, but he revealed his immense displeasure with the NBA's replay system.
During this week's episode of the Mind the Game podcast (45:00 mark), James let loose on the league's replay center in Secaucus, New Jersey, adamantly saying that he feels the game officials should be able to get the calls correct on their own.
"I don't like the fact that we can allow someone all the way in like, f--king Secaucus somewhere, determine what the call should be," James said. "We're right here! This is live! ... No, it's a guy in there eating a f--king ham sandwich determining what the call should be. S--t pisses me off. I'm the old guy now, so..."
While speaking with co-host Steve Nash and Lakers teammate Austin Reaves, James called out the inconsistencies in officiating. He feels that some players are allowed to get away with certain things, and he also gave examples of how calls are made depending on the flow of the game.
To be fair, James has historically been on the right side of the whistle throughout his 23-year career, so it's safe to say that he's benefitted from favorable calls as well. Still, the 41-year-old is correct that the league's referees need to be more consistent to reduce the controversial calls that can determine a game's outcome.
James and the Lakers (46-26) will be back in action on Wednesday night against the Indiana Pacers (16-56).
