Wemby Makes Case for NBA MVP in Video, Notes Spurs 'Dominated' SGA, Thunder Head-to-Head
Victor Wembanyama has made a strong case for NBA MVP this season, and he vocalized why he thinks he deserves the league's most coveted award after a win over the Miami Heat on Monday.
The San Antonio Spurs star was asked to give his three arguments for why he should win the award over Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander:
"I think right now it is reasonable that there is still a debate. My goal is to make sure that there is no debate at the end of the season... My first one would be that defense is 50 percent of the game, and that is undervalued so far in your race. Because I believe I'm the most impactful player defensively in the league. Second argument would be that we almost swept OKC in the season and we dominated them three times with their real team... My third argument would be that offensive impact is not just points."

Wembanyama has been one of the most dominant players in the league this year, and he makes some solid points.
Nobody has been better than Wembanyama on defense this year, as he leads the league in blocks per game (3.0) and has 39 more total blocks than Indiana's Jay Huff, who is No. 2 on the total blocks list this season.
Wembanyama is also averaging four steals plus blocks per game this year, the best mark in the league.
But he's done far more than affect the game just on defense, as he's putting up 24.3 points per game and 3.0 assists per game. It's also impossible to ignore the impact that the 7'4" Wembanyama has on both ends of the floor just by being on the court.
Gilgeous-Alexander has the points and assists edge over Wembanyama as he's putting up 34.6 points and 6.6 assists per game, which could sway voters more than Wembanyama's defensive numbers.
Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder will also likely end the season with the best record, but OKC lost four out of its five matchups against San Antonio.
It's worth noting that the MVP race isn't just between Wembanyama and Gilgeous-Alexander. Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić is still very much in the race, and a recent hot stretch from him and his team is only making his case stronger.
Even if Wemby doesn't take home his first MVP award this year, the fact that he's even in the conversation at the age of 22 speaks volumes about how quickly he's progressed. As far as Wembanyama winning an MVP goes, it's more of a question of if than when.
