Lakers Snap Win Streak, Disappoint Fans in Loss to Pistons After LeBron's Slow Start

Andrew PetersMar 23, 2026

The Los Angeles Lakers' nine-game win streak came to an end on Monday at the hands of the Detroit Pistons despite strong performances from LeBron James and Luka Dončić.

The Lakers fell to Detroit 113-110 after Daniss Jenkins' go-ahead bucket helped seal the win for the Pistons.

James got off to a very slow start on Monday, as the Pistons held him to zero points in the first half. It was just the third time in his 23-year career that James did not score in the first half.

He managed to turn things around, though, finishing with 12 points, 10 assists and nine boards. It was also another strong performance from Dončić, who had 32 points, seven rebounds and six assists as his MVP case continues to get stronger.

Those two didn't give the Lakers enough to keep their win streak alive, though.

The Lakers have been one of the hottest teams in the league as they came into Monday's game having won nine in a row and 12 of their last 13 games. The recent stretch helped them jump into third place in the West.

The win streak was fueled in large part by the strong play of Dončić, who is averaging 36.8 points per game in the month of March. He posted a season-high 60 points last week.

A loss to a Pistons team that is without star point guard Cade Cunningham, who is dealing with a collapsed lung, is a bit concerning, but certainly not the end of the world for Los Angeles.

While the Lakers' streak came to an end on Monday, a favorable stretch against the Pacers, Nets and Wizards should help them regain some momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
