Cam Thomas Waived by Bucks 18 Games After Signing Contract, Top Landing Spots for Former Nets SG

For the second time in less than two months, Cam Thomas has been waived.

The Milwaukee Bucks announced Monday that they are moving on from the guard after signing him on Feb. 8 following his release from the Brooklyn Nets. In a corresponding move, the team converted Pete Nance to a multi-year standard contract.

Last season, Thomas appeared on his way to stardom after putting up 24 points per game, though he played just 25 games due to injuries. He saw his role decrease early into the 2025-26 campaign in Brooklyn, and he ended up posting just 15.6 points per game while playing 24.3 minutes per game.

With the Nets pivoting towards a future centered around their young core, they decided to move on from Thomas. Brooklyn reportedly sought a trade for Thomas initially but couldn't find one.

Upon his release from the Nets, Thomas told Marc J. Spears of Andscape that he was "super excited and ready to actually help and contribute to another team. My next team is getting elite scoring, good playmaking and a good combo guard."

The Bucks seemed like a good fit for Thomas as they looked to make a mid-season turnaround, but he played an even smaller role in Milwaukee than he did in Brooklyn, averaging 10.7 points per game while playing 16.6 minutes per contest.

Navigating another release for Thomas will be difficult, but it could be best for him to close out the season elsewhere as he looks to prove he can still be a key contributor for a team.

The New York Knicks could be a good fit for Thomas, as the team could use some scoring and backcourt depth. Jalen Brunson provides plenty of offense in the starting group, but the team's offense takes a hit when he's off the court.

The Orlando Magic are similar to the Knicks in that they could benefit from an offensive-minded guard. Jalen Suggs offers plenty of defense, but Thomas would provide a much-needed offensive boost.

The Dallas Mavericks are far from a playoff contender at this point, but might consider adding Thomas to the backcourt since Kyrie Irving is out for the rest of the season.

Wherever Thomas ends up, he'll look to re-establish himself as a capable option like he was last year in Brooklyn.
