New NBA Mock Draft 📝
Soon after entering, McCain hit a pair of quick three-pointers.
The Sixers drafted McCain 16th overall in 2024 after his outstanding freshman season at Duke. McCain appeared on his way to being a key part of Philadelphia's rotation, putting up 15.3 points per game through his first 23 games.
Unfortunately for the 76ers and McCain, he suffered a torn meniscus in December, ending his rookie season prematurely. McCain was healthy to start the 2025-26 campaign, but saw his role decrease significantly from last year. He was playing just 16.8 minutes per game after playing 25.7 minutes per game as a rookie. Through 37 games, he was putting up just 6.6 points per game.
With McCain playing such a small role for Philadelphia, the team opted to trade him ahead of this year's deadline, sending him to Oklahoma City in return for a 2026 first-round pick and three second-round picks.
So far, it's worked out for McCain, as he's getting to play a bit more for the Thunder and is currently averaging 12.3 points per game. Not to mention, he moved from a middling Eastern Conference team to the defending champs, who look poised to repeat this year.
While McCain's run with the 76ers were short-lived, he'll always have a soft spot for the team and its fans.
"I always love the Philly fans. They were always super nice to me whenever I went out. When I got hurt, coming back from it. They were always just super positive and super helpful, in my opinion," McCain told reporters this week. "So shout out to them for having my back through this process and always just being there for me. Though the DMs I've gotten. Just super nice and just saying they miss me and stuff."
