NBA Fans Sound Off on Jonathan Kuminga's 1st Game vs. Steve Kerr, Warriors Since Hawks Trade

Zach BacharMar 21, 2026

Atlanta Hawks forward Jonathan Kuminga played his first game against his former team on Saturday night, as the Hawks took down the Golden State Warriors by the final score of 126-110.

Kuminga scored two points on 1-of-9 shooting, missing all three of his attempts from behind the arc. He also recorded four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 22 minutes on the court.

The Warriors traded Kuminga and veteran guard Buddy Hield to the Hawks in exchange for forward Kristaps Porziņģis on Feb. 4.

Fans discussed Kuminga's performance against head coach Steve Kerr's squad on Saturday.

The first half of Saturday's game was closely contested, as neither team held a double-digit lead at any point throughout the first two quarters of action.

Atlanta finally gained separation after halftime with a dominant third quarter, outscoring Golden State 39-20 in the period.

The Warriors were never able to recover, as the Hawks pushed their lead to 28 points before wrapping up the 16-point victory.

Dyson Daniels stepped up for Atlanta in the win, finishing with 28 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals while shooting 12-of-17 from the field.

CJ McCollum was also a key contributor throughout the game, scoring 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting.

Despite Kuminga's inefficient performance, he's shown promise following the change of scenery. He averaged 14.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game on 56.6/58.3/71.0 shooting splits as a member of the Hawks heading into Saturday's action.

While Kuminga reportedly clashed with Kerr during his tenure on the Warriors, the coach was complimentary of him following the contest.

"I like Jonathan. We always got along well," Kerr said, per Nick Friedell of The Athletic. "The basketball part was the hard part. We couldn't quite offer him what he needed and vice versa.  We were a championship team — he needed really a lot of freedom and 35 minutes to make mistakes and grow and learn because he came in with very little experience, and we just couldn't offer him that — bottom line."

The Hawks improved to 39-32 with Saturday's win, while the Warriors fell to 33-38.
