It was a proud moment for the Curry family.
"It means the world because the Hornets' No. 30, pinstripes, Charlotte and Dell Curry are pretty synonymous in terms of what he did as the original Hornet," his son, Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, told Marc J. Spears of Andscape. "Ten years playing there, what he's done as a broadcaster, in the community and all that. Charlotte is our home. I was there in 2016 and they honored him. And then 10 years later, he was going into rafters. It's special for our whole family. We call him the originator. And me and Seth are able to do this because of him. He set the foundation. So, one, to have it happen and, two, to be able to be there and see it in person, I'm so excited."
"It's a big deal," Seth Curry added. "He and the Hornets and the city of Charlotte are kind of synonymous when it comes to basketball. Obviously, with him being the first Hornet, it just represents all he has done for that organization being a part of it for so long. And then obviously, this even makes it even cool that I was actually the last person to wear No. 30 for the Hornets [2024-25 season]. So, it's huge for that to live up in the rafters forever."
Dell Curry, 61, spent 10 years playing for the Hornets in the late 1980s and 1990s, averaging 14 points and two assists per game during his time with the franchise. He also shot 40.2 percent from three, so it's little surprise his two sons were each fantastic shooters as well (and Steph Curry makes a strong argument as the greatest shooter in NBA history).
