Derrick White Reveals He Glued Tooth Back Into Mouth During 2024 NBA Finals with Celtics
Derrick White became a champion during Game 5 of the 2024 NBA Finals.
He also became an impromptu dentist.
The Boston Celtics star appeared on Tuesday's episode of The Tonight Show and recalled when his tooth was knocked out in the game during a discussion with Jimmy Fallon (3:20 mark).
"I go to the game, I get hit in the mouth," White said. "I had a bridge on at the time and it came out, so I just picked it up and went straight to the back. I'm not a hockey player, so I had to figure out a way to glue it back together."
"So they just kind of glued it and then I put a mouthpiece on it, played the rest of the game and eventually went to the dentist the next day."
It worked, as White finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and two steals on 4-of-8 shooting from three-point range during the Game 5 victory. The Celtics clinched a 4-1 series win over the Dallas Mavericks, which marked the first championship of the guard's career.
White was excellent for Boston throughout that playoff run and averaged 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.2 blocks and 0.9 steals per game while shooting 40.4 percent from deep.
He was the team's third-leading scorer in the postseason and an important secondary playmaker alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
He also led the team in the amount of teeth temporarily glued back into place during the NBA Finals.
