Kevin Durant's 'KD19' Signature Shoe Photos, Release Date Revealed Ahead of Rockets vs. Lakers
Nineteen years in the league and 19 signature shoes.
That is the formula for Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant.
Ahead of Houston's game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday, Nike unveiled Durant's 19th signature shoe with the company. It will be released on June 13 on SNKRS, and the Rockets' red colorway immediately stood out in the initial photos:
"Built with equal attention to head-turning style and on-court dominance, the Nike KD19 ushers in the latest chapter of Kevin's signature athlete journey with an innovative, multilayered cushioning system and exterior TPU dagger that calls to mind Kevin's 'Slim Reaper' persona," Nike's release explained.
It also highlighted the shoe's "multilayer cushioning system built around the return of a full-length Zoom Strobel."
The shoes will be available globally four days after the SNKRS release on June 17.
"Across basketball, few players are as smooth or as dangerous from anywhere on the court as Kevin Durant," Ross Klein, who is the VP creative director of Nike Basketball, said. "The KD19 embodies that edge: visually distinct, built for instant responsiveness and all-game comfort, helping players get to any spot and knock down any shot."
Durant's ability to knock down any shot has made him a defining player of his generation.
His resume includes two championships, two NBA Finals MVPs, the 2013-14 MVP, the 2007-08 Rookie of the Year, four scoring titles, 11 All-NBA nods, 16 All-Star selections and a spot on the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team.
Even in his age-37 season for the Rockets, the future Hall of Famer has remained an All-Star-caliber player,
Durant is averaging 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 40.6 percent from deep. His presence is a major reason Houston is in fourth place in the Western Conference standings at 41-25.
It is also just a half-game behind the third-seeded Lakers, making Monday's game all the more notable following this announcement.
