Steph Curry Not Thinking About NBA Retirement amid Injury Woes, 'It's Still My Happy Place'

Andrew PetersMar 14, 2026

While Stephen Curry is only getting older and injuries are starting to take a toll, the Golden State Warriors star doesn't plan to call it a career anytime soon.

Curry told The Athletic's Marcus Thompson that while his body requires more maintenance than it used to, he's still at his happiest when he's playing basketball.

"I think your body is the first point of information," Curry said. "Just what it takes to get ready for a game is a lot different now than it was a decade ago. When I'm out there on the court right now, I still get lost in the fun. It's still my happy place. All the work is worth it because I get to go out there and hoop at the highest level. The competition, the camaraderie, the chasing something that matters โ€” that still gets me going. And I don't see that stopping anytime soon."

The 38-year-old Curry is still playing at a high level, putting up 27.2 points per game this year, but he's been sidelined since January with runner's knee. The injury he's dealt with this year hasn't been a theme, though, as he played 70-plus games in each of the last two seasons.

Curry has already had a Hall of Fame career, but it seems he's not close to being done. That's good news for not just the Warriors, but for the game of basketball in general.
