Kirk Cousins, Anthony Richardson, Joe Flacco Landing Spots After Kyler Murray Signs Vikings Contract

Zach BacharMar 12, 2026

One of the top remaining free-agent quarterbacks is no longer available, as Kyler Murray signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday.

Still, there are several options available as teams continue to search for more help under center.

Kirk Cousins was officially released by the Atlanta Falcons on Wednesday, while the Indianapolis Colts gave Anthony Richardson permission to seek a trade on Feb. 26.

Veteran Joe Flacco also remains a free agent after starting 10 games with the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals in 2025.

Cousins could be targeted by a team coming off a playoff appearance such as the Pittsburgh Steelers, as Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot previously reported that the Steelers will "likely be interested" in him if they don't bring back Aaron Rodgers.

The Las Vegas Raiders could also utilize Cousins as a veteran mentor for a young quarterback such as Fernando Mendoza, especially with the team owning the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft.

Las Vegas is expected to show interest in the 37-year-old, per The Athletic's Dianna Russini.

While Richardson was linked to the Vikings prior to signing Murray, he could still be targeted by teams searching for more depth at quarterback.

Jordan Love is entrenched as the Green Bay Packers' starting signal-caller, but backup Malik Willis left to sign a three-year contract worth $67.5 million with the Miami Dolphins in free agency.

As Green Bay searches for a new reserve behind Love, Richardson may be considered.

The Los Angeles Rams are in a similar situation as the Packers, with 2025 backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo currently a free agent.

Richardson's representatives have been open to their client sitting behind a veteran and playing in a system that benefits his skills on a new team, per Fox Sports' Henry McKenna.

If he's looking for an experienced signal-caller to sit behind and a proven head coach to play under, there aren't many options better than Los Angeles' duo of Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay.

While Flacco is 41 years old, his tenure with the Bengals to close out the 2025 season was still impressive. He completed 61.7 percent of his throws for 1,664 yards and 13 touchdowns compared to four interceptions across nine games.

ESPN's Dan Graziano reported March 1 that Flacco could join the Atlanta Falcons in free agency, although the Falcons ultimately signed Tua Tagovailoa to a one-year contract.

If the veteran isn't able to find an opportunity to compete for a starting role, he might stay in Cincinnati.

Flacco would "strongly consider" returning to the Bengals and remaining Joe Burrow's backup in 2026, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Burrow's starting spot won't be in jeopardy by any means, but he's missed 16 games over the past three seasons due to injuries. For a Bengals squad looking to end a three-year playoff drought, Flacco could become a valuable depth piece once again.
